The Healing Power of Pain & Memory - Book Review

A Crazy, Holy Grace

The author's knows what it means to deal with pain, grief, and grace from a child after his father committed suicide. He shares that God is near even when He is silent.

The author's best writings covering such topic as loss of a loved one.

Loss/death will come to all of us, but we are not alone. God's holy healing grace is always present and available if we are quiet enough to receive it.

Through the gates of pain we enter into joy.

It seems that pain and death are on the rise, lurking in the shadows, waiting to pounce, ready or not. Our lives are filled with freak accidents, cancer, and the steady decay of time. Stories of destruction and pain come at us from everywhere - our news, TV shows, movies, and social media sites - because fear and death seem to sell.

Simply put, suffering is universal.

We all have different ways of dealing with our pain, depending on what day it happens to be and how we happen to be feeling.

The author's mother had not only the suicide of his father but two other unsuccessful marriages. She lived to be a great age, and in many ways she remained a valuable person.

The author shares there could be a hundred and six other ways we have of coping with pain.

You don't have to talk about pain, but you have to live out of your pain.

Through the gates of pain we enter into joy.

God says He is with us on our journeys. He says he has been with us since each of our journeys began. Listen for God.

It is to choose to believe that the truth of our story is contained in Jesus's story, which is a love story. Jesus's story is the truth about who we are and who the God is who Jesus says loves us.

"And these words which I command you this day shall be upon your heart, and you shall teach them diligently to your children, and you shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the the way, and when you rise."

Frederick Buechner is the author of more than 30 books and has been important source of inspiration and learning for many readers. He has been awarded honorary degrees from institutions institutions including Yale University and Virginia Theological Seminary.

Sunday - Circumcision - Genesis 17:1-14 - 9/10/17

The Lord told Abram, I am the Almighty God, walk before me. He has the same message for us today. We are to obey because he is God - that is reason enough. If you don't think the benefits are worth it, consider who God is - the only one with the power and ability to meet your every need.

Twice before God had mentioned his agreement (Genesis 12 & 15). God was bringing it into focus and preparing to carry it out. He revealed to Abram several specific parts of his covenant. (1) God would give Abram many descendants; (2) many nations would descend from him; (3) God would maintain his covenant with Abram's descendants; (4) God would give Abram's descendants the land of Canaan.

God changed Abram's name to Abraham ("the father of a great multitude") shortly before the promised son was conceived. From this point on the Bible always calls him Abraham.

God was making a covenant, or contract, between himself and Abraham. The terms were simple: Abraham would obey God and circumcise all the males in his household. God's part was to give Abraham heirs, property, power, and wealth. Most contracts are even trades: we give something and in turn receive something of equal value. But when we become part of God's covenant family, the blessings we receive far outweigh what we must give up.

God required circumcision (1) As a sign of obedience to him in all matters. (2) As a sign of belonging to his covenant people. Once circumcised, there was no turning back. The man would be identified as a Jew forever. (3) As a symbol of "cutting off" the old life of sin, purifying one's heart and dedicating oneself to God. (4) Possibly as a health measure.

Circumcision more than any other practice separated God's people from their heathen neighbors. In Abraham's day, this was essential to develop the pure worship of the one true God.

Sunday - The Peaceful Kingdom - Isaiah 11:1-9 - 9/3/17

Assyria would be like a tree cut down at the height of its power never to rise again. Judah (the royal line of David) would be like a tree chopped down to a stump. But from that stump a new branch would grow - the Messiah. He would be greater than the original tree and would bear much fruit. The Messiah is the fulfillment of God's promise that a descendant of David would rule forever.

The Messiah is Jesus Christ.

How we long for fair treatment from others, but do we give it? Only Christ can be the perfectly fair judge. Only as he governs our hearts can we learn to be as fair in our treatment of others as we expect others to be toward us.

Judah had become corrupt, and now it was surrounded by hostile foreign powers. The nation desperately needed a revival of righteousness, equity, and faithfulness. They needed to turn from selfishness and show justice to the poor and the oppressed. The righteousness that God values is more than reframing from sin, it is actively turning toward others and offering them the help they need.

It is incredible to think of hostile animals living at peace. It is even more incredible for hostile people to live at peace with one another. And one day the whole world will acknowledge that Christ is Lord.

A golden age is yet to come. Not all of this was fulfilled at Christ's first coming. For example, nature has not returned to its intended balance and harmony.

Sunday - Called to Preach - Acts 9:10 - 20 - 8/20/17

(Jesus Calls Saul/Shaul/Paul on Damascus Road - Saturday - 8/19/17)

Paul was an outstanding missionary, theologian, and writer of the early church.

Paul was born in a Jewish family in Tarsus. Paul's family was of the tribe of Benjamin. Paul probably came from a family of tentmakers or leatherworkers and, according to Jewish custom, was taught this trade by his father. Apparently the business thrived and Paul's family became moderately wealthy.

The true way of the Lord was one of the earliest names for Christianity. The glory of God (or Christ) is often described as the light. The street called Straight, which runs through Damascus from east to west. Saul, like the prophets, was chosen for a special purpose.

Saul's conversion marks a turning-point in the history of the early church. The encounter with Christ was followed by three sightless days: Saul was identified with Jesus in his death and three days in the grave, and identified with him too in baptism and newness of life.

The Way was the name given to the church before the people of Antioch invented the new name 'Christian.'

Damascus, a key commercial city, was located about 175 miles northeast of Jerusalem in the Roman province of Syria.

As Paul traveled to Damascus, pursuing Christians, he was confronted by the risen Christ and brought face to face with the truth of the Gospel.

Paul refers to this experience as the start of his new life of in Christ. At the center of this wonderful life was Jesus Christ - Paul did not see a vision, he saw the risen Christ himself (Acts 9:17).

Anyone who persecutes believers today is also guilty of persecuting Jesus because believers are the body of Christ on earth.

Paul opened his eyes - but could not see - he was temporarily blinded.

Ananias was sent by God to Paul. He greeted Paul as "Brother Saul." Ananias feared this meeting because Paul had come to Damascus to persecute believers and take them in chains to Jerusalem. But in obedience to the Holy Spirit, he greeted Paul lovingly.

Immediately after receiving his sight and being with the believers in Damascus, Paul went to the synagogue to tell the Jews about Jesus Christ. Paul took time alone to learn about Jesus before beginning his worldwide ministry, but he did not wait to witness. Although we should not rush into a ministry unprepared, we do need to wait before telling others what has happened to us.

When we are children, our innocence allows us to pave the perfect road. We believe everything is perfect, that it will stay perfect, and nothing will get in our way.

There is no perfect road. God himself says: "For I know the plans I have for you; declares the Lord; plans to prosper you and not to to harm you, plan to give you a hope and a future"

So are you ready to jump in and discover God's plans?

Heather and her husband already had a son when they found out they were expecting twins. The names Rebekah and Rachel came to mind before she knew they would be girls.

Heather enjoyed dressing her girls up in the same outfits.

Then one fateful day, Heather discovered while changing her baby's diaper of her 18=month old baby something that did not appear right. Rebekah had to have a biospy which determined a rare form of cancer.

Rachel now 6, began to complain about back pain . Rachel began screaming in pain and asked to go to the doctor.

Heather's mother lost all hope and died. She died of a broken heart,

Biblical History of Assyria/Assyrian

Assyria/Assyrians . Babylon . Babel . Babylonia . Hammurabi . Law . 10 Commandments . Torah . Pentateuch . Pentateuch at Shechem . Authority . Inspiration . Book of Revelation . Revelation from God

I was assigned a personal assignment by my Sunday School Teacher on 6/16/2013 on locating information about Assyrians character for June 23, 2013. Her goal is that we learn together..

Assyria: intolerant & oppressive (Nahum 3:19); Cruel & destructive (Isaiah 10:7); selfish & reserved (Hosea 8:9); Unfaithful (II Chronicles 28:20,21); Proud & Haughty (II Kings 19:22, 24; Isaiah 10:8); An instrument of God's venegenance (Isaiah 7:128,19; 10:5); Invaded Israel (II Kings 15:19); Bought off by Menahem (II Kings 15:19-20)

Predictions: Conquest of the Kenites (Numbers 24:22); Conquest of Syria (Isaiah 8:4); Conquest & captivity of Israel (Isaiah 8:4; Hosea 9:3); Restoration of Israel (Isaiah 27:12); Destruction of (Isaiah 10:12-19; 30:31), & Participation in the blessings of the gospel (Isaiah 19:23-25; Micah 7:12)

Assyria was a great and powerful country living on the Tigris (Genesis 2:14), the capitol of Nineveh (Genesis 10:11). Assyria derived its name from Asshur, the son of Shem (Genesis 10:22).

Gradually it was extended to the whole region between the Armenian mountains upon the north, and upon the south country about Baghdad, bounded by the Mesopotamian desert, it reached the Euphrates.

Sargon's son became the most famous of the Assyrian kings. He invaded the kingdom of Judea in the region of Hezekiah. Fall of Assyria, prophesied by Isaiah (Isaiah 10:5-19), was effected by the growing strength and boldness of the Medes, about 625 B.C.

Assyria's religion (Genesis 10:22) was complex polytheism (worship of more than one god).

Assyria & Persians (individuals who lived in Iran) invaded/conquered/ravaged Egypt for gold, slaves, and etc.

Assyrians conquered all of Mesopotamia, plus Egypt and other lands around the Mediterranean. They destroyed Babylon, but built awesome palaces with beautiful sculptures in their own cities. They were known for fine libraries of clay tablets/books on religion, science, history, and other subjects.

Assyrians grew powerful after the time of Hammurabi.

Babylon: Greek for Babel, capitol of Chaldea, built by Nimrod (Genesis 10:10; II Kings 17:30), return of Jews from (Ezra 1; Nehemiah 2), to be taken by Cyrus (Isaiah 45:1,2), its fall (Isaiah 13:14; 21:2; 47:48), church in (I Peter 5:13), and the Great (Revelations 14:8; 16:19; 17:18).

Babylon was rebuilt and under King Nebuchadnezzar it rose to power again. Nebuchadnezzar carried the Jews into captivity. Babylon was overrun, by the Persians who were mighty.

Babylonians rose to power in Mesopotamia.

Babel (gate of El, or Confusion); Nimrod, King of (Genesis 10:10; and confusion of tongues at the building of (Genesis 11).

Babylonia, an ancient kingdom, situated between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, near the Persian Gulf. Ur (where Abraham once lived) was a chief city, on the western bank of the Euphrates (Genesis 10:10), between Ur and Babylon (Genesis 14:1); southwest of Babylon (II Kings 17:24).

Most famous of the early kings of Babylonia were Sargon of Accad and his son, Naram-Sin, who conquered a large part of
Western Asia, establishing their power in Palestine then/Israel/Holy Land, and carrying their arms to the Sinaitic peninsula.

In the time of Hammu-rabi, Syria and Palestine/Israel were subject to Babylonia and its Elamite suzerain, and they exercised their influence and power in the land of the Amorites.

Babylon was destroyed by Sennacherib. It was rebuilt and it was to Babylon that Mannasseh was brought a prisoner (II Chronicles 33:11).

Hammurabi (Chronology of Old Testament - Chronological Tables of The Old Testament) .. Babylonia & Asyria; Egypt & Syria & Other Lands; Babylonia & Persia; Babylonia & Persia, Egypt & Greece, Rome, etc. ... Chronological Table of The Period Between The Old & New Testament: Persia & Syria, Egypt, & Greece & Rome.

King Hammurabi, wise king of Babylonia, who lived about 1,800 years before the birth of Christ.

He had his best advisors search for the best laws all over his kingdom. Business and banking issues dealt with some of the laws. The laws protected all - rich and poor, widows, orphans and slaves. Women were allowed many rights as men.

Law, of God given to Adam (Genesis 2:16), to Noah (Genesis 9:3), promulgated (make known to the public/news) through Moses (Exodus 19:20; Deuteronomy 1:5' 5:6); described (Psalm/Tehillim 19:7;m 119:1; Romans 7:12); all guilty under (Romans 3:20); fulfilled by Christ (Romans 5:18); preserved on stone (Deuteronomy 27:1; Joshua 8:32); fulfilled in one word (Galatians 5:14) & having a shadow of good things (Hebrews 10:1).

10 Commandments, delivered (Exodus 20; 31:18: Deuteronomy 5:6), on tables of stone broken (Exodus 32:10); renewed (Exodus 34:1; Deuteronomy 10:1); and fulfilled by Christ (Matthew 5:!7; 19:17; 22:35; Luke 10:25; 18:18)

Torah, the Law ... Pentateuch, first five books of Moses (Old Testament)

The Pentateuch At Shechem, manuscripts of the Pentateuch form a single roll or volume, and divided not into books but into larger and smaller sections. Five books of the Pentateuch form a whole. Record of Creation, history of world, early history of the Jewish family and concludes with Moses' last discourse and his death.

Authority (Matthew 7:29; Mark 1:22)

Inspiration, Dr. Knapp definition, "an extraordinary divine agency upon teachers while giving instruction, whether oral or written, by which they were taught what and how they should write or speak."

Inspiration and Biblical Criticism (II Timothy 3:16; Luke 1:79; Job 32:8)

It Takes A Community of Resources ... 2005

120x60 Marketing Evaluation

Book Review . Business . Inspiration . Self-Improvement . Business Coach . Mentor . Writer . Editor . Host

I reviewed this book in 2005 while being the Business Coach Editor/Host/Writer for a website and I broke my review down to I believe three reviews from this book.

I am sharing from Chapter 9 of "Her Corner Office" by Trudy Bourgeois.

The more diverse the resources, the richer the information and experience you'll gather.

Listing of resources for your consideration:

The local library

Books

The Internet

A buddy to brainstorm with

Your Church

Mentors

You might be considering setting up a personal board of directors. A personal board of directors is a group of people that you have selected to be your advisors. This team of people should be carefully selected, based upon their character, values, principles and experience.

Anther option is to form ra Mastermind Group. Mastermind Groups are composed of people who want to learn from each other. These groups can be as six people, or as large as twenty people.

Develop a list of potential books to review, topics to cover, and issues that might be of interest.

You will need a good mentor. A mentor can play a key role in your ongoing learning and development.

You can get most out of your relationship with your mentor by: learning to listen, setting an agenda, don't think that a coach or mentor has all the answers and expect good things to come out of the relationship.

In the last five years many corporations have chosen to support their staff by using an outside coach.

Potential results of using a coach: Increased knowledge, strategic-planning skill development, self-marketing and creating powerful connections.

Coaching sessions are kept confidential.

I do believe that Ms. Bourgeois publicists contacted me to review this book in 2005.

Trudy Bourgeois, a former corporate sales and marketing executive, is founder and president of The Bourgeois. With over 20 years experience, Trudy understands what is needed to inspire employees, create workable strategies and improve employee performance.

Getting To The Root Of Your Problem: 365 Days of Inspirational Thinking ... Book Review

Inspiring thoughts for each day of the year.

Dr. Rico D. Short shares that God gave him the vision, courage, and inspiration to put his thoughts in writing to share with others. He shares different versions of the Holy Bible, but I prefer the the KJV & Complete Jewish Version.

He is an Endodontist (Root Canal Specialist) To The Stars/Actors/Producers/Writers/Comedians/Television Anchors/Sport Athletes, & Music Artists.

He attributes his accomplishments to an understanding and loving wife, Angela (love that name) and kids but most of all to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Day 70:

The spiritual state of the nation is in trouble. We must put God back in His right place first! If not, we will continue to struggle as a nation with the economy, healthcare, oil crisis, etc. "Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord" (Psalms/Tehillim 33:12 NIV).

Day 229:

In God you are strong (Jehovah Nissi - your banner of protection - Psalms/Tehillim 27:1). He is your Jehovah Jireh (Provider). Start praising and rejoicing because if He did it once, He can do it again.

Day 210:

If you were to die today, would you want to be remembered by what you post on Facebook or Twitter? What kind of words are you leaving behind for your children and others? Think about this today.

Day 300:

Family and friends are important! "Friends (true friends) love through all kinds of weather, and families stick together in all kinds of trouble" (Proverbs 17:17 MSG).

Day 153:

When you accepted Jesus, he placed a deposit in you and it is the Holy Spirit. He is a guidance counselor strictly for you. Popularity doesn't impress God. He is not concerned about your bling, house, or clothes.

Day 299:

Jesus/Yeshua and Paul used the word "Church" in reference to the people of God. Church never referred to a religious building.

Day 78:

There is a dying world out there that needs our help and prayers. The lost need us to show more unconditional love! Remember when Jesus/Yeshua defended the woman caught in the very act of adultery when she was getting ready to be stoned? Remember when you were caught in the act of something and you should have been stoned? It's only by grace and mercy!

Day 289:

Most people want instant success. God promotes with precision and judges your heart. When God promotes; He will sustain. God has to establish your roots so you/I can be strong when the storm comes. Being a servant first allows your roots to be established so you will know what to do once appointed a king!

Day 323:

To all those in leadership and authority (political, social, economical) we have a responsibility to God who puts us in those positions! (Proverbs 31:8-9)

Day 130:

When someone does you wrong, you must forgive! Why? Because Christ forgave you (Ephesians 4:32).

Day 133:

Be careful how you talk to people. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone (Colossians 4:5-6).

Day 72:

"Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you" (Romans 12:3 NIV). You ain't all that; I ain't al that and a bag of chips.

Jesus deserves our praise and worship for only He is worthy to be praised.

Day 165:

Did you know as a child of God you have your own Secret Service? You have angels that are assigned to assist you in fulfilling your God - given purpose on earth. God has ordered His angels to guard you wherever you go (Psalms/Tehillim 91:11-12).

Day 47:

Dr. Short was able to bless a man he hardly knew and his family. Their home was foreclosed on. We are blessed to be a blessing! Who have you helped lately?

Now this reminded me of a song that I believe that Janet Jackson recorded "What have you done for me lately?"

Day 48:

Do you want good to come to you? You must give and run your business with honesty and integrity! (Psalms/Tehillim 11:25 NIV)

Leviticus 19:11 ... Industrial Employments & Products; Trade & Commerce; Honesty in Trade, Fraud .... KJV Topical Reference Bible

Day 243:

Pray for people for positions of power - whether Godly or not. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to you God's established authority. Support rulers that promote good works and resist those that promote evil.

Day 76:

Your level of success is not measured by how much money or things you possess, but rather how many people you positively influence in changing the way you think!

Day 255:

As Christians, we need to live true lives as well as true words, which means both publicly and privately so that we can draw others to Christ.

Christians better be glad "Walls Can't Talk" - Little Milton recorded this song over 40 years ago... If Walls could talk it would destroy a lot of Christians/Their Home/Business/Their Ministries.

Day 320:

How many women in today's society are willing to submit to a godly husband? We don't see much of this emulated on television.

Day 291:

A warning to all manipulating ministers: "On the other hand, if you give one of these, simple, childlike believers a hard time, bullying or taking advantage of their simple trust, you'll soon wish you hadn't (Mark 9).

Day 322:

A good woman is hard to find, and worth far more than diamonds. Her husband trusts her without reserve, and never has reason to regret it. Never spiteful, she treats him generously all her life. She looks over a field and buys it, then, with money she put aside, plants a garden." - The Bible (Men, sorry, but you usually will not find these on the set at the video shoot or int he club!)

Day 128:

Don't let the "fine-ness" in that lady mess you up, brothers. You gotta check out the brain and heart too! Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears (love) the Lord is to be praised" (Proverbs 31:30 NIV).

Day 132:

What are the characteristics of a godly wife? She is worth far more than rubies (Proverbs 31:10, 27-28 NIV).

Day 131:

For some of you, a war may be going on in your life right now. Sometimes you need to sit down and be silent! This is a spiritual battle we are in! Let the spirit of God work today in your situation.

Day 164:

Christian marriages are under attack! Some marriages need a tune-up and some may need to be overhauled. Whatever your case pray and love one another and let God do the rest.

Day 166:

God calls Christians to love unconditionally (agape) - everyone - no matter the race, religion, or culture. Christ loved you while you were unlovely.

Day 38:

Dr. Short performed a rather difficult surgery. At the end, the patient said, "That's it?" Dr. Short replied, "Yes!" The patient shared that she prayed before the surgery and Dr. Short prayed before performing the surgery, and God did the rest! The next time you need surgery, please pray and don't be offended to ask the doctor to pray as well before the surgery!

Day 138:

The three most difficult things to say are: "I love you," "I'm sorry," and "Help me." I believe we all fall into some of these categories sometimes.

Day 276:

Are you married or have you been to a wedding? The wedding dress has to look elegant, fit perfectly, and be spotless on that special day. We are referred to as the bride of Christ which is the Church. Because of Jesus/Yeshua blood, we will put on that beautiful spotless wedding dress that represents his righteousness that washes our sin away. Before we had a choice, sin was already there! The only way we can be pure (like the white wedding gown) is by accepting Him as our Lord and Savior. And now to the wedding feast or party! Did you receive your invitation yet] There is still space available. 1. Acknowledge that you are a sinner and in need of a Savior. 2. Believe that Jesus died, was buried, and rose(resurrected) for your sins. 3. Ask (confess) him to come into your heart and be Lord over your life. You will be seated at the table.

I received a copy of this book for review from Author House. I review books for publishing companies, authors, businesses and ministries.

Dr. Short has been featured in several publications, radio and television show,s Internet blogs, and journals. He serves as an expert Board Certified Root Canal Consultant to the Georgia Board of Dentistry. He is also an associate clinical professor at the Medical College of Georgia School of Dentistry.

His main focus is to encourage the youth to set goals and give them realistic advise on how to achieve them.

He was raised in a single family household by his mother who worked 33 years on the floor in a textile mill. Growing up as a child, he didn't have a lot of "material things" but he had lots of love, prayer, and support from his family. His mother had to "drag" him to Church because he really did not see the importance as a teenager.

He is married to Angela Short who is a dental hygienist by profession as well as a Proverbs 31 wife. They have two children: Jayla and Ava.
