Sell An Idea .. Metaphorically Selling in Business/Sales .. Book Review (2005)
Book Review . Metaphors . Words . Sales Pitches .Information . Communication . Presentations . Speeches . Business Coach Host . Editor . Host. Writer . Speaker . Executive Coach . Seminar Leader . Consultant . Author . Media . Financial Services . Business Sectors . Yahoo . Millions of Dollars
I am most thankful that Ms. Anne Miller sent me her book "Metaphorically Selling" in 2005 when I was the Business Coach Host - Editor - Writer.
Anne is the founder of Chiron Associates Inc., a widely respected sales and presentation speaker, executive coach, seminar leader, consultant and author. She assists high profile Fortune 1000 companies in media, financial services and business sectors, including Yahoo! and over 100 consumer magazines. She sells products and services worth millions of dollars. She has appeared on CNNfn and Bloomberg News Radio.
Billions of dollars are left on the table and hundreds of ideas fail to get off the ground every day because of the over-communicated society in which we live.
This book will guide the reader step-by-step through the process of incorporating metaphors into sales pitches, presentations and speeches, including exercises and tips to cultivate and sustain a competitive edge using metaphors.
Packed with more than 250 examples from business, media, and even the deserts of Morocco, the small business owner to the corporate executive - to lead their listeners to "yes" by becoming a "Metaphorian" -- a master of metaphor.
In 1980, Lee Iacocca went to Congress to get $1.2 billion in loan guarantees for the then failing Chrysler Corporation. HE argued, quite successfully. Chrysler's problems were America's problems; Chrysler's bankruptcy would be America's loss.
Iacocca got his money.
Iacocca's one small phrase won him $1.2 billion dollars.
Lee Iacocca understood the power of metaphors, visual words that conjure an image in the listener's mind and unleash a torrent of associations.
That is the power of speaking metaphorically. You can change minds.
In Anne's 20 years of teaching sales and presentation seminars, one key factor that she see repeatedly sets sellers apart from their competition is their choice of words. It is not enough to present; you must communicate.
Metaphors help a client see possibilities he didn't see before and they help him make the best decision.
In Section one you'll learn that the brain actually craves the visual and the emotional; that you must appeal to both the left and the right side's of your client's brain to make a sale.
What Do You Sell?
Words Matter.
It's not the presenters aren't prepared: they know their material, they've worked up a slick PowerPoint presentation, they've got excellent hand-outs. But their verbal skills and/or approach to communication cost them their audience.
They confuse information with communication.
A Metaphor is simply a way of communication.
Information + Metaphors = "I see what you mean!"
Sometimes a metaphor will fail because it isn't given enough explanation to succeed.
Her goal is to get you to see the possibilities of what you may be missing. You're going to see all the ways a presentation can increase your selling power and bring you more business.
It's like a stained-glass window, you have to step back to get the full effect.
Girl Talk ... Friendship of Elisabeth and Mary ... Book Review (12/2000)
Book Review . Women . Girl Talk. Family-friendly . Christian . Spiritual Medicine to your Soul
This book plainly touches on all healing areas of women lives such as depression, rebelling children, debt, grief and divorce, just to name a few areas.
This is a book review that I reviewed and shared December 2000 at one site.
Girl, have I got good news for you and it is like " Spiritual Medicine to your Soul."
This book was written by Thelma Wells (2000, Thomas Nelson Publishers, 161 pages). I would recommend this book for churches, homes, mission, women, Sunday school departments, counselors, pastors, abuse centers, financial centers, women clinics, funeral parlors and Parenting classes.
This book plainly touches on all healing areas of women lives such as depression, rebelling children, debt, grief and divorce, just to name a few areas.
I would like for you to think on Luke 1:5, 11-17, 36; I Samuel 1:2-7, Psalm 127: 3-5 and Luke 1:60. We are looking at two women sharing their joy and concerns.
Elisabeth was the wife of Zechariah; God had chosen her for a special ministry.
It seems like Elisabeth and Mary had a friendly relationship. When Elisabeth was six months pregnant, Mary visited her.
Mary stayed with Elisabeth for three months, and the two women shared hopes and dreams. Elisabeth was old enough to be Mary's grandmother and she probably shared wisdom and advice with her.
I can see a beautiful picture of the friendship of two women. They probably blessed and encouraged each other.
Elisabeth was a wife, mother, friend and mentor.
When we came into the world we had great assets to weather successfully any storm or difficulty.
My friend, let's take inventory of our assets: Love, courage, faith, prayer and God.
Love opens doors, heals and blesses.
Wisdom lights the path to health, prosperity, and adjustment of difficulties, happiness and peace of mind.
Courage knocks on the door to success.
Faith tells us that no matter what happens God is present in all His power.
Prayer is the key to development of all of our assets.
Our greatest asset is God. We can always count on God. Man will let you down.

Hot Topic .. Abuse In The Church ... Book Review (2007)
Book Review . Ministers Wives . Private Lives . Public Lives . Author . Parent . Pastor .Unfaithful . Survivor . Divorced . Abuse . Married . Happy Marriage . You Can Have a Dream Marriage
Joel (Husband, Parent, Pastor) and Kathy Davisson sent me their books for review in 2007. Their marriage was restored and I'll share more at a later date.
On May 14, 2013 Kathy emailed me and shared this with me after I contacted her and told her that I was going to share some reviews from her book again: See us in "Unfaithful" on the OWN (Oprah Winfrey) network. Look for "Unfaithful" and "Kathy and Joel" as one of the two couples! (Season 2, 2012. Re-broadcasted often.)
I shared a couple of reviews from this book "Real Life 101 Issues."
Tips from a Book I Reviewed
Joel(Husband, Parent, Pastor) which is one of the authors shares "longsuffering ministers' wives know their husbands are not living the life in private that they are attempting to display in public.
He understands the manipulation and control to which these wives have been subjected behind closed doors. He knows what it means to step out of ministry to go through the painful growth needed to become the man that God has called him to be by becoming the husband that his wife needs him to be.
The point is not that a pastor's wife left him. The point is that his wife's departure was a cumulative response to years of manipulation, abuse and control. This was not a sudden decision.
If someone could have looked at the authors of this book lives they would have seen the truth that his wife and him were fighting a lot.
Joel has openly shared how he mistreated his wife - Kathy in many ways.
Joel and Kathy had to successfully live what they wrote for a long time before they could share it in writing.
Dr. Sandra Hamilton, Miami, Florida shares in the book - she received information on this book at the Global Pastors Network and Women in Ministry Conference.
She recently completed two Doctoral degrees, one of which is in Education with Specialization in Conflict Resolution and the other in Religious Education (seminary). She thoroughly researched domestic violence in the church. She stated it is a silence issue. Her dissertation will be looking at the African American communities...where the epidemic seems to be devasting.
She is a survior. She is divorced.
Rosanna Logan shares in the book - she was married for 25 years to a Bible College director and associate pastor of a big church in Fort Worth. She and her husband got a divorce because he had several affairs with students. Rosanna was a Bible College instructor and Christian journalist (editor of 500,000 circulation Christian newspaper in Dallas).
She wanted her marriage restored but she wanted her husband to come clean on his own and tell the senior pastor.
The senior pastor was not interested in the truth.
Abuse is a cycle that must be broken in families. She recommends "Young people need this book before they get married."
She shares her husband was too arrogant to believe that he needed help.
Rosanna has ministered in 24 countries, built and international Christian newspaper and taught all over the world for 18 years.
She is now married again. She is now on the ground floor of starting new Christian publications, writing books, and Christian college curriculum and she is about to start three new Bible Schools. She says "the devil can knock you down, but he can't knock you out!"
The authors of the book is Joel & Kathy Davisson (Husband, Wife, Parents, Pastors) of "The Man of Her Dreams The Woman of His! Preface by Paul Hegstrom Ph. D., Endorsed by Pastor Billy Joe Daugherty.

We Will Have Consequences of Our Sin/Wrong Doing ... 8/9/2007
Psalm 18 . King David. Sin . El Elyon . Pray . Tragedy . Sunday School Lesson . Book of Job . Ezekiel 18 . Suffering . Storms . Jesus . Lord . Repent . Ezekiel/Yehezkel
The below is not a new article, but an article I shared at a website 8/9/2007.
I pray that we have been seriously in prayer for all the Tragedy that have taken placed. Is The Most High God - El Elyon Sleep? No HE is not. Genesis 14:18 - 20, Isaiah 14:14b.
And yes my heart has been heavy this week from all that I could see going on but I know that angels are holding back the 4 winds of heaven (Revelation 7:1). Keep praying and look up. (My newsletters will not be this lengthy every week)
My Sunday School lesson notes is coming first in this newsletter and I do pray that someone is encouraged, helped in their christian walk, their personal walk, their job, their career and their business walk.
I am still looking at the Book of Job. As Job we are to trust God through the storms/the things we do not understand.
All suffering/storms do not mean that someone has done something wrong it can be "tests." Do we have the patience of Job? Matthew 8:23-27 Tells me about the Disciples and Jesus in the storm. Jesus does have the power to speak and yes even the wind/storm/sea will obey HIM.

America's Financial Expert .. Ellie Kay (Book Review 2005)
Book Review . Personal Finance . Ellie Kay . Financial Expert . Business Coach . Host . Editor . Writer . Fiscal fitness . Debt . Retired Fighter Pilot . Finances . Money . Money Personalities . Money Styles . Debt Free
I shared this book review while being the business coach host/editor/writer for a site in 2005. I also shared a couple of reviews from this book 'The Debt Diet.'
Besides this book, there are quite a number of web sites that can provide the information that you might need to achieve your goals. Fiscal fitness work outs and goal setting worksheet.
Whether you need to lose a few pounds of debt, or a truck load the good news is in this book.
Ellie Kay is the author of 'The Debt Diet.' This book has 220 pages and I encouraged readers to read it. She also speaks to live audiences of 6,000 or more.
Ellie Kay is a speaker and bestselling author of 7 books, she has appeared on hundreds of TV & radio programs including CNN, Fox News Channel, CNBC's Power Lunch, the International Radio Show, Money Matters, and Simplify Your Life, a reality TV series for the Fine Living Network.
Before the author married her husband, Lieutenant Colonel Bob Kay, a retired F-117 Stealth fighter pilot, Elliot was a successful insurance broker who never used a coupon. The author and her husband married with $40,000 in debt, and even though her husband took a $15,000 pay cut in his new job, they were still able to become debt-free in 2 1/2 years by following the author's step-by-step method to save money and pay down debt.
There are nine different money personalities:
Achievers
Entrepreneurs
High Rollers
Hunters
Money Masters
Perfectionists
Producers
Optimists
Safety Players
There are several key money styles that people posses:
The Saver
The Avoider
The Overspender
The User
The Balancer
The weaknesses of the saver: to enjoy themselves or make investments that could help secure their financial future. They may even have trouble using money for their health or well-being.
There are 3 basic reasons why people who "make it" in terms of monetary or material success do not find fulfillment in the wealth itself.
Emotional Satisfaction
Personal Priorities
Purpose
Barbara Reinhold, a career coach at Monster.com, "Perhaps it goes without saying, but you have to take strategic risks to earn and grow money."
David Bach's encourages readers to give 10% of their income away to nonprofit organizations.
Donald Trump has, the same 24 hours as we do! Why not look at donation your time to a nonprofit? Giving time does not substitute for donating money to an organization.
If you took your change and threw it into a jar, adding a few dollars here and there, you could easily invest $100 per month.
Learn to cut your food budget in half. Take whatever money you save from coupons and immediately write check in your saving account for that amount.
There's never been a better day to start saving for the future than today. Decide upon 3 action points you can take. Pick one significant way you can be generous or share this week and two more ways you can kick your up to the next level. Writing your goals down makes them more likely to happen.
Your finances didn't get chaotic overnight, and they're not going to get organized in one hour either. One way to accomplish this goal is to cover one topic per workout.
Fighting about money can cost you money.
Raising a money-savvy kid will greatly heighten his odds for having a successful marriage one day.
It's amazing how conservative a child becomes when she's not spending Mom and Dad's money, but her own.
RAISING FISCALLY FIT KIDS CHAPTER 10
The author's daughter took a year off midway through college to earn money for her education so that when she returned to and graduated from Columbia University, she could do so with minimal debt. She earned scholarships, was part of a work-study program, and made minimal use of student loans. Her smart move meant fewer bills when she got married.
It is extremely important to realize we don't have cookie-cutter kids, they are all different and uniquely gifted. It's not that one child is smarter or better behaved than the other, they are just operating on different time-tables.
VISITING THE SPA - The "Treat" of Shopping To Share Chapter 12
Th author's 11 year old son went to the grocery store. He was buying groceries for his sister and her new husband to help them set up the pantry in their first home.
The son total for the grocery was $28.60 before coupons, but afterward it was only $1.80.
The author's family saved over $8,000 last year on food, toiletries and cleaning products.
But life has away of turning the tables on us. It led to the opportunity for the author to conduct seminars, write books, and eventually appear on TV sharing this wonderful stories with others.
Who would have thought way back when Ellie & Bob were struggling like crazy to pay down their 40k-debt that one day, their "problem" would be turned around to help save the lives of one million strangers in a far away land.
I reviewed a copy of this book to review from Bethany Publishers while being the Business Coach Host/Editor/Writer for a site in 2005.
Ellie Kay is a bestselling, award-winning author, national radio commentator, and regular media guest as well as gifted speaker. She is a graduate of Colorado Christian University with a degree in the management of human resources.
The author is the founder of Shop, Save & Share Seminars. She is also a frequent consultant and spokesperson for corporations and organizations.

It Takes A Community of Resources ... 2005
Book Review . Business . Inspiration . Self-Improvement . Business Coach . Mentor . Writer . Editor . Host
I reviewed this book in 2005 while being the Business Coach Editor/Host/Writer for a website and I broke my review down to I believe three reviews from this book.
I am sharing from Chapter 9 of "Her Corner Office" by Trudy Bourgeois.
The more diverse the resources, the richer the information and experience you'll gather.
Listing of resources for your consideration:
The local library
Books
The Internet
A buddy to brainstorm with
Your Church
Mentors
You might be considering setting up a personal board of directors. A personal board of directors is a group of people that you have selected to be your advisors. This team of people should be carefully selected, based upon their character, values, principles and experience.
Anther option is to form ra Mastermind Group. Mastermind Groups are composed of people who want to learn from each other. These groups can be as six people, or as large as twenty people.
Develop a list of potential books to review, topics to cover, and issues that might be of interest.
You will need a good mentor. A mentor can play a key role in your ongoing learning and development.
You can get most out of your relationship with your mentor by: learning to listen, setting an agenda, don't think that a coach or mentor has all the answers and expect good things to come out of the relationship.
In the last five years many corporations have chosen to support their staff by using an outside coach.
Potential results of using a coach: Increased knowledge, strategic-planning skill development, self-marketing and creating powerful connections.
Coaching sessions are kept confidential.
I do believe that Ms. Bourgeois publicists contacted me to review this book in 2005.
Trudy Bourgeois, a former corporate sales and marketing executive, is founder and president of The Bourgeois. With over 20 years experience, Trudy understands what is needed to inspire employees, create workable strategies and improve employee performance.

Secrets of Health ... Book Review
I reviewed this book between 2008 and 2010.
Many secrets of living are hidden in food. The mixture and balance must first be reviewed. Some fruit and some vegetables, milk and some meat. Eat enough to live well, but don't live just to eat. There's wisdom which simply says than "an apple a day keeps the doctor away."
To sum it all up, is it very complex? No, not that difficult - let's review the secrets:
1. Look out for yourself, you're the one who should care.
2. Smoking is out, breathe only clean air.
3. Seat belts saves lives, buckle up.
4. Steer clear of whiskey, beer, vodka, wine, gin.
5. Eat the right food groups, go easy on sweets.
6. Say no to drugs.
Next, to exercise one hour a day is good health.
Treat others as kindly as you treat yourself.
Last, save sex for one "life companion and mate" don't gamble away your health or life make it great!
Miracle treatment adds 7 years to life. This amazing health discovery was reported in Demography magazine in 1999.
The research concluded that people who attend religious services once a week lived an average 7 years longer than non-attenders, in a National Health interview survey. Incredibly, in blacks the difference was nearly fourteen years. The researchers credited the attenders lower rates of smoking and few negative lifestyle habits for half of the difference.
Along the same line, another study has shown that couples who attend church together weekly reduce their risk of divorce from 50 percent to 10 percent. In other words, weekly worship of God is associated with a 90 percent marriage success rate. These two suggest that an active spiritual life is a key ingredient in a healthy individual and family life. The age-old wisdom of the church continues to offer evidence of its important role as not only a life-preserver, but also as a marriage-preserver.
Dr. Richard French had an idea, he decided to write a book that families could use as a tool to teach their children how to live a healthy life.
The Secrets of Good Health, which give peace of minds. Most children can learn them quite effortlessly. But keeping and doing them daily through life takes will power (discipline), to avoid needless strife.
Doctor Richard has studied for dozens of years, through testing and trials, through laughter and tears.
There's a number of things that he's learned about, and he'd like to relate to you what he's found out.
Is there some magic to give us Good Health? Pills, potions, or anything else? The secret to good health might be in a book, locked away, hid in some library nook.
Explorers have searced for a fountain of youth; scientists probe for disease-solving truth.
Good health is a gift, more precious than gold, we may not appreciate until we are older. A gift only we can give to ourselves. It does not come from wizards or fairies or elves.
The body you live in is a clever machine, it needs proper service like a limousine. Yet with reasonable care it can give you eighty plus years.
Bones, they're the frame of the house that we live in. Pound for pound, strong as steel. Without them we're jelly, but with ligaments, we can stand up and move. Two hundred seventy bones, we have as a child, add muscles and tendons, we can crawl, walk, run wild!
We wouldn't move far if it weren't for the nerves, traveling thousands of miles through the body they serve. Sensing pressure, position, and balance and pain, all wired together, like a switchboard to the brain.
That mega-computer inside of your skill senses touch, taste and smell - hot/cold sharp or dull. It registers hearing, it images sight; it processes language to speak, read or write.
It orchestrates movement, each eyelid or lip, with split-secound messages, you dance, swim, or skiep, play basketball, volleyball, or play violin. Mind-boggling-circui try-just to pick a pin!
Yet the largest organ enfolds all the skin. It keeps out infection and keep insides in. And a spectrum of colors add much to the views: browns, yellows, tans, bronze in multiple hues.
The blood is the lifeline, it flows to each cell with food, water, oxygen essentials for health.
I was sent a review copy of this book I think by Dr. French.
Dr. Richard French is the author of Secrets of Health. He is the President of the Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital Medical Staff for more than two years.
He is also the Chairman of the Executive Committee, he has been an effective liason between the Medical Staff and the hospital's Board of Trustees and Executive Officers.

The Gospel of John (Book of John) "the most influential book in all literature."
John writes from personal knowledge. John shows us how a divine personage infuriated the hiearchy by claiming to be one with Jehovah. There is in St. John's Gospel a large element which, although under the guidance of the Spirit comes form himself.
In the issues of the ministry a more complete revelation is made to the disciples (John Chapters 13-20).

Daniel's Fast & How To Pray ... 2/2003
Scriptures on how to pray - this is one of my Feb. 10, 2003 Writings.
http://injesus.com/message-archives/christian-living/ChristianThinkers/daniel-fast-and-how-to-pray
What was on my mind when I wrote this in 2003?
I am sharing scriptures on Daniel fast:
Daniel 6:18-24, Daniel 9:1-19, Daniel 10:3-13
The book of I Timothy 2:1-2 has on record how to pray as well :::::
I EXHORT therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;
For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
KINGS::::::::::::IN THE USA TO MY UNDERSTANDING WE HAVE A PRESIDENT INSTEAD OF A KING...IN OTHER COUNTRIES THERE ARE KINGS, PRESIDENTS, PRIME MINISTERS, ETC...........
ALL THAT ARE IN AUTHORITY
I Timothy 2:1-2 teaches us the Duty of Intercession and Peaceableness.
I Timothy 2:1-2 refers us to Ezra 6:10, Jeremiah 29:7 and Romans 13:1:
a. which has on record sacred places "Zerubbabel's Temple" and commands the applicants to promote the building.
b. Pleading in prayer, for country, national pardon
c. Civil/social life and obedience to rulers
I Timothy 2:4 ... Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
ALL MAY BE SAVED -- Man Redeemed

I freely share book reviews as well as my sunday school lesson notes with various sites/places. Any additional writing-reading(s)-teaching, etc. are by appointments unless I feel directed to do so.
Some years ago a preacher email me and wanted to refer me to help write sunday school literature for the company that he was or he had written for. He told me they will pay you but they pay slow. I told him no thank you for I did not want that type of pressure put on me and another thing I have never been to Theology or Seminary School so I decided not to take him up on his offer.

My Sunday School Bible Reading for the week of May 5, 2013 is coming from the Books of Job, Psalm/Tehillim, Lamentations, and I Peter.

Job's second speech (Job 6:1-7:21)
A discussion between Job and his friends written in poetry. There are three sets of speeches.
The book of Job seems written to point out that such suffering is often permitted as a test of faith and a means of grace.

Tuesday - April 30, 2013 - Days without Hope - Job 7:1-6

Talmud ... 'doctrine,' from the Hebrew word "to learn," is a large collection of writings containing a full account of the civil & religious laws of the Jews.
Chapter 3 consists of sixty-six verses, and three verses, each beginning with the same letter, are assigned to each successive letter of the alphabet, so that there is a threefold alphabetical arrangement in that chapter.

Creating a Mother-Daughter Bond That Lasts a Lifetime ... Book Review
I received an advanced reading copy of this book February 2007.
The authors, Shellenberger and Gowler will be speaking throughout the U.S. at the closer: Mother-Daughter events in 2007.
No question about it, you have your hands full. Whether you're happily married, or are a single mom, balancing life as a mother is exhausting. Many of you hold down a job, plus you're carpooling kids to ball games and keeping hungry mouths fed, clothes clean, dogs washed, bills paid...Maintaining a household and raising a family is work!
At least once a week, indulge yourself with an hour just for you.
To better love others, you must first love yourself.
Our daughters live in a much different world than we did at their age. We worried about things such as who would ask us to the prom and the big project due in class next week.
It may shock you to know what's really on your daughter's mind every day as she walks out the door to school.
Teen suicide is the leading cause of death among teens and youth ages 10 -19 years old. Hopelessness and depression are devasting emotions that need to be taken seriously.
Moms: Are you really in touch with the world your daughter lives in, or are you living in the past?
Daughters: Are you willing to take a risk and talk about the tough stuff with your mom?
A mother understands what a child does not say. __ Jewish Proverb
A covenant is much more than a decision or a promise or a commitment or a pledge or an agreement.
The word for covenant in the Old Testament comes from a Hebrew word that means "to cut."
Types of Covenant:
Covenants of God He remembers his covenant forever, the word he commanded, for a thousand generations, the covenant he made with Abraham, the oath he swore to Issac. He confirmed it to Jacob as a decree, to Israel as an everlasting covenant: "To you I will give the land of Canaan as the portion you will inherit" (Psalm 105:8 - 11 NIV).
Two different types of covenants used in the Old Testament:
1. Parity Covenant - I Samuel 18:3 - 4, Malachi 2:14, Obadiah 7
2. Suzerain Covenant - Ezekiel 17:13 - 14, Joshua 23:16
Variety of covenants made by God:
Edenic Covenant - Genesis 3:15 Noachian Covenant - Genesis 9:9 Abrahamic Covenant - Genesis 15:18 Sinaitic Covenant - Exodus 19:5 - 6 Levitical Covenant - Numbers 25:12 - 13 Davidic Covenant - 2 Samuel 23:5 New Covenant - Matthew 26:28
"A daughter may outgrow your lap, but she will never outgrow your heart" __ Author Unknown
It doesn't take long after the birth of your first child for sobering reality to hit: you're responsible for the health and well being of another human life.
From the moment of delivery it's your responsibility to care for and teach this little one about life, God, and eventually how to become independent of you.
A wise mom realizes that she's not up to the task on her own.
Go to your knees for wisdom and strength.
Trust the One who created your daughter.
God knows best how to nurture and encourage her to become all He intended her to be.
In the book there is a Mom and Daughter Quiz. Answers will varyh between true/false and multiple choice.
There is a quick quiz to check your apology quotient in the book as well.
There are Journal Entries with specific questions for moms and daughters to answer in the book as well.
Determine to leave behind all "faith by appearance" and dive into a genuine relationship with God with the understanding that nothing more will be done for show.
"How do I know my mom loves me?" Chelsea repeated. "well, that's easy! When I'm sick she makes me homemade chicken soup. She makes a special bed for me on the couch so I can watch TV if I feel like it. And she brings my special blanket to cover me up with.
"A mother is one to whom you hurry when you are troubled." __ Emily Dickinson
Girls, there are five parts to a covenant you're being challenged to make with your mom. The only way you can be successful at making and keeping this sacred oath with her is by having a covenant with your heavenly Father.
If you don't have a genuine covenant with God, you can't have a genuine covenant with your mom.
Communicating includes prayer for and with your daughter, written expressions of love and affirmation, verbal affirmation, and physical touch.
Christ wants you as close to Him as you can possibly get. He also wants you as close to your mom as you can possibly get. The way you draw closer to Christ is by being on your knees - or through prayer.
As you develop a strong, powerful prayer line that shoots directly into the kingdom of heaven, don't simply pray for yourself; pray for your mom as well.
Your daughter absorbs your mood swings, attitudes, unspoken vibes, and body language much faster than she does the words coming out of your mouth.
What You Can Expect: Ages 11 - 14
You've suddenly become the most annoying person on the face of the earth and have no idea what you're talking about most of the time; at least that's how she perceives you today. Tomorrow may be totally different.
She lives in a world that tells her to be more grown-up and sophiscated than she's ready for.
Keep a close watch on who and what is influencing her choices.
What You Can Expect: Ages 15 16
This is the fun stage of your daughter's life. She's become more confident, and her talents and areas of interest are narrowing down.
Here are a few tips to help you stay connected with her:
Step into her world and find out what she loves. She may have totally different interests than you.
Don't try to make her into a carbon copy of yourself or another sibling. She's one-of-a-kind.
Get to know her. Tap into her personality and discover what motivates her.
Encourage her to seek God's plan for her life.
Keep in mind your teen daughter is still a teenager, not yet an adult.
What You Can Expect: Ages 17 - 19
She needs your guidance now more than your lectures.
She wants you to talk to her, not at her. She wants your input but needs to make her own decisions.
This is the day you've been working toward for eighteen years. You've taken a helpless, totally dependent wrinkled baby girl and turned her into a confident and independent young adult.
You did it! With God's help, you did it.
Congratulations! Treat yourself to a pedicure or an ice-cream sundae. You deserve it!
I received a copy of this book for review February 8, 2007.
The authors:
Susie Shellenberger has written forty-one books, is in demand as an international speaker for women's groups and teens, and started the Brio Mother/Daughter Cruise for Focus on the Family.
Kathy Gowler has counseled hundreds of teen girls in person and by answering their email questions.

Getting To The Root Of Your Problem: 365 Days of Inspirational Thinking ... Book Review
Inspiring thoughts for each day of the year.
Dr. Rico D. Short shares that God gave him the vision, courage, and inspiration to put his thoughts in writing to share with others. He shares different versions of the Holy Bible, but I prefer the the KJV & Complete Jewish Version.
He is an Endodontist (Root Canal Specialist) To The Stars/Actors/Producers/Writers/Comedians/Television Anchors/Sport Athletes, & Music Artists.
He attributes his accomplishments to an understanding and loving wife, Angela (love that name) and kids but most of all to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Day 70:
The spiritual state of the nation is in trouble. We must put God back in His right place first! If not, we will continue to struggle as a nation with the economy, healthcare, oil crisis, etc. "Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord" (Psalms/Tehillim 33:12 NIV).
Day 229:
In God you are strong (Jehovah Nissi - your banner of protection - Psalms/Tehillim 27:1). He is your Jehovah Jireh (Provider). Start praising and rejoicing because if He did it once, He can do it again.
Day 210:
If you were to die today, would you want to be remembered by what you post on Facebook or Twitter? What kind of words are you leaving behind for your children and others? Think about this today.
Day 300:
Family and friends are important! "Friends (true friends) love through all kinds of weather, and families stick together in all kinds of trouble" (Proverbs 17:17 MSG).
Day 153:
When you accepted Jesus, he placed a deposit in you and it is the Holy Spirit. He is a guidance counselor strictly for you. Popularity doesn't impress God. He is not concerned about your bling, house, or clothes.
Day 299:
Jesus/Yeshua and Paul used the word "Church" in reference to the people of God. Church never referred to a religious building.
Day 78:
There is a dying world out there that needs our help and prayers. The lost need us to show more unconditional love! Remember when Jesus/Yeshua defended the woman caught in the very act of adultery when she was getting ready to be stoned? Remember when you were caught in the act of something and you should have been stoned? It's only by grace and mercy!
Day 289:
Most people want instant success. God promotes with precision and judges your heart. When God promotes; He will sustain. God has to establish your roots so you/I can be strong when the storm comes. Being a servant first allows your roots to be established so you will know what to do once appointed a king!
Day 323:
To all those in leadership and authority (political, social, economical) we have a responsibility to God who puts us in those positions! (Proverbs 31:8-9)
Day 130:
When someone does you wrong, you must forgive! Why? Because Christ forgave you (Ephesians 4:32).
Day 133:
Be careful how you talk to people. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone (Colossians 4:5-6).
Day 72:
"Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you" (Romans 12:3 NIV). You ain't all that; I ain't al that and a bag of chips.
Jesus deserves our praise and worship for only He is worthy to be praised.
Day 165:
Did you know as a child of God you have your own Secret Service? You have angels that are assigned to assist you in fulfilling your God - given purpose on earth. God has ordered His angels to guard you wherever you go (Psalms/Tehillim 91:11-12).
Day 47:
Dr. Short was able to bless a man he hardly knew and his family. Their home was foreclosed on. We are blessed to be a blessing! Who have you helped lately?
Now this reminded me of a song that I believe that Janet Jackson recorded "What have you done for me lately?"
Day 48:
Do you want good to come to you? You must give and run your business with honesty and integrity! (Psalms/Tehillim 11:25 NIV)
Leviticus 19:11 ... Industrial Employments & Products; Trade & Commerce; Honesty in Trade, Fraud .... KJV Topical Reference Bible
Day 243:
Pray for people for positions of power - whether Godly or not. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to you God's established authority. Support rulers that promote good works and resist those that promote evil.
Day 76:
Your level of success is not measured by how much money or things you possess, but rather how many people you positively influence in changing the way you think!
Day 255:
As Christians, we need to live true lives as well as true words, which means both publicly and privately so that we can draw others to Christ.
Christians better be glad "Walls Can't Talk" - Little Milton recorded this song over 40 years ago... If Walls could talk it would destroy a lot of Christians/Their Home/Business/Their Ministries.
Day 320:
How many women in today's society are willing to submit to a godly husband? We don't see much of this emulated on television.
Day 291:
A warning to all manipulating ministers: "On the other hand, if you give one of these, simple, childlike believers a hard time, bullying or taking advantage of their simple trust, you'll soon wish you hadn't (Mark 9).
Day 322:
A good woman is hard to find, and worth far more than diamonds. Her husband trusts her without reserve, and never has reason to regret it. Never spiteful, she treats him generously all her life. She looks over a field and buys it, then, with money she put aside, plants a garden." - The Bible (Men, sorry, but you usually will not find these on the set at the video shoot or int he club!)
Day 128:
Don't let the "fine-ness" in that lady mess you up, brothers. You gotta check out the brain and heart too! Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears (love) the Lord is to be praised" (Proverbs 31:30 NIV).
Day 132:
What are the characteristics of a godly wife? She is worth far more than rubies (Proverbs 31:10, 27-28 NIV).
Day 131:
For some of you, a war may be going on in your life right now. Sometimes you need to sit down and be silent! This is a spiritual battle we are in! Let the spirit of God work today in your situation.
Day 164:
Christian marriages are under attack! Some marriages need a tune-up and some may need to be overhauled. Whatever your case pray and love one another and let God do the rest.
Day 166:
God calls Christians to love unconditionally (agape) - everyone - no matter the race, religion, or culture. Christ loved you while you were unlovely.
Day 38:
Dr. Short performed a rather difficult surgery. At the end, the patient said, "That's it?" Dr. Short replied, "Yes!" The patient shared that she prayed before the surgery and Dr. Short prayed before performing the surgery, and God did the rest! The next time you need surgery, please pray and don't be offended to ask the doctor to pray as well before the surgery!
Day 138:
The three most difficult things to say are: "I love you," "I'm sorry," and "Help me." I believe we all fall into some of these categories sometimes.
Day 276:
Are you married or have you been to a wedding? The wedding dress has to look elegant, fit perfectly, and be spotless on that special day. We are referred to as the bride of Christ which is the Church. Because of Jesus/Yeshua blood, we will put on that beautiful spotless wedding dress that represents his righteousness that washes our sin away. Before we had a choice, sin was already there! The only way we can be pure (like the white wedding gown) is by accepting Him as our Lord and Savior. And now to the wedding feast or party! Did you receive your invitation yet] There is still space available. 1. Acknowledge that you are a sinner and in need of a Savior. 2. Believe that Jesus died, was buried, and rose(resurrected) for your sins. 3. Ask (confess) him to come into your heart and be Lord over your life. You will be seated at the table.
I received a copy of this book for review from Author House. I review books for publishing companies, authors, businesses and ministries.
Dr. Short has been featured in several publications, radio and television show,s Internet blogs, and journals. He serves as an expert Board Certified Root Canal Consultant to the Georgia Board of Dentistry. He is also an associate clinical professor at the Medical College of Georgia School of Dentistry.
His main focus is to encourage the youth to set goals and give them realistic advise on how to achieve them.
He was raised in a single family household by his mother who worked 33 years on the floor in a textile mill. Growing up as a child, he didn't have a lot of "material things" but he had lots of love, prayer, and support from his family. His mother had to "drag" him to Church because he really did not see the importance as a teenager.
He is married to Angela Short who is a dental hygienist by profession as well as a Proverbs 31 wife. They have two children: Jayla and Ava.
